The interchange has the form of a four-lobed shamrock and is part of the river Nestos - stream Amaxadon of Egnatia Odos (section 14.2.1. and 14.2.3). The interchange, in the three quarters of the form, is classical (NE, SE and SW). In the northwest quadrant there are the facilities SEBATH which do not permit the development of the junction in the classical way. The routes which are affected by this part of the junction are the routes from Xanthi to Kavala (entrance in the thoroughfare) and Komotini to Porto Lago (exit from the thoroughfare). The first one, is one of the busiest routes in a motorway, while the visit numbers of the second one follows closely behind.

In order to address this problem, an arrangement whereby the barrier of SEBATH bypassed using the first part (0 + 000-1 + 250) of the provincial road bypass Bafeikon - Genisea, which belonged in the interchange of Bafeikon, was chosen. This road is connected with the thoroughfare with a clockwise ramp to Kavala and diamond shape ramp from Komotini.
